The aurora borealis, or the Northern Lights, is indeed a marvel – a magnetic dance of solar winds in the night sky amidst a backdrop of glimmering stars.
This natural wonder has tempted people to travel thousands of miles to behold its beauty and it’s definitely on our bucket list, even if it takes camping out in the freezing cold Scandinavian weather to watch the show!
No man-made production or big budget creation can come close to this greatest of great light performances on earth, but (lucky for us) Norwegian photographer Ole Salomonsen has managed to capture it in what we think is one of THE most beautiful videos ever created of this phenomenon…or nature, really.
Shot in the northern parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway throughout the Autumn of 2011 and Spring of 2012 (yes, he’s one of the dedicated ones), Celestial Lights is a stop-motion based video featuring wild and aggressive, and sometimes slow and majestic auroras, as well as a few milky way sequences. Before you think some parts are sped up for visual charm, Ole kept his shots as close as he could to real time; the lights actually do dance that fast!
Sink your eyes, your heart and your thoughts into this video and fall in love with the universe all over again with Celestial Lights. We sure did :) (But make sure your volume is turned down a little – you’ll hear why!)
