The First Mind, or Social Mind, is the one you were born with. It is obviously influenced by your family, friends and experience. Unfortunately, this doesn't really present a life map that is accurate and designed to lead to a happy, fulfilled life. For example, have you ever tried to do something over and over again, and even though you followed someone's reasonable sounding suggestion, it still didn't end the way you were expecting? Why did that happen? Chances are, you were following an inaccurate map. Even if you have a beautiful map with mountains, rivers, valleys, lakes, towns,highways and landmarks, do you want that map if, for example, you want to have a picnic in that beautiful park shown on your map and head off there only to find there's no park, there's not even the road you're looking for, but straight ahead there's a smelly garbage dump? In this group, one of the things I'll be trying to do is give suggestions on how you can develop a more accurate map. You won't get that right away, and yes, it'll require work as well as an open, flexible mind. It may take some time for you to wrap your head around some ideas, and there may be some you don't want to accept, and that's ok. Take what you want, take what you can handle, and see if it makes a difference. I'm not trying to convert anyone. TAOISM ITSELF is not for everyone, but Taoist PRACTICES can be used by everyone.
