Ashwaganda (Pronounced: Ah-shwa-gahn-duh)
Ashwaganda Plant
This herb is used for adrenal function as well as other endocrine disorders like thyroid support. For me, I took a liking to the holy basil, so I didn’t use ashwaganda as much as the other.
Dr. Williams speaks highly about ashwaganda for it’s use in thyroid and adrenal support and has used it with his clients for quite a long time.
Ashwaganda is an herb that has been used in Ayurvedic practice for immune system support as well as for boosting libido in both men and women. This makes sense on a physiological level because if the adaptogen (ashwaganda is one just like holy basil) is working to regular the endocrine system the immune system and sex drive should improve.
Usage: Just like holy basil, this is a tonic herb, which means you can use it regularly. And again, just like I mentioned with tulsi, I’d recommend you don’t follow guidelines blindly, but that you use what is needed, listen to your body and work with a practitioner who is familiar with the herb.
Ashwaganda extract
You can use ashwaganda in capsule or extract form. We use this potent extract (here) and feel it is one of the best. You can also go to your local health food store and see which brand they recommend.
You only need just a 1/4 of a teaspoon when you get started with this herb. Start small, then determine what your dosage should be.
