This is a great story. But as one who was raised with horses; you can keep them Lol. I have been kicked, bit and rubbed off on one too many fences to have any romantic feelings for these wonderful animals. LOTS OF WORK is what I remember most. Seriously though I had a roping horse named Thorin I still miss a bit from time time. So smart and well trained, he would hold his ground being pulled by the biggest steer and back em where you wanted em. Thanks for the story.
Thank you for sharing such informative and beautiful articles, Melodie.
As a little girl growing up on my grandparents farm, I always longed to be near the horses - however, I was bitten on the ear by one (a love nibble, I'm sure :) and as a result, my grandfather was terrified of leaving me near them; I had to admire them from a far.
As an adult, I did a little bit of horseback riding, mostly as an outdoor adventure / activity on guided trails. However, this summer past I had an opportunity to experience some one-on-one time with two horses and the experience was incredible.
We were at a BBQ for a friend's birthday, and the following photos are of her horses. While all the other guests and their children were mingling, celebrating, eating, drinking, and being merry - I stayed with the horses. They are both older, and considered family 'pets' - not that this is a bad thing, but rather - my point is to illustrate how something that my friend's found to be 'just a part of every day life - we feed them, visit with them, brush, bathe and ride them' while my connection with them was profound. Zen. I stayed with the horses (Rocky and Winter) for nearly the whole party and the experience was one of the most "Zen" moments of my entire life. Time stood still and there was nothing but me, the horses, a brush, and the peace that comes from Be-ing. It's an experience I'll never forget, and personally, I can relate to the articles you've posted and additionally - I would have to agree with the assumption that horses and our human connection with them, can lend to incredibly healing experiences.
These pictures are wonderful Kristina. I'm so glad you enjoyed the post. Your added message to it says it all. And the photo's have such spiritual feeling to them. Thank you for posting and sharing your experience. Beautiful. Love and Blessings. Melodie
